Sybase has a fabulous product in PowerBuilder. It is a shame that developers are under pressure to move away from it. Your note that there may not be enough PowerBuilder developers is a chicken and egg problem for Sybase.
Sybase needs to be agressive in several areas to reverse the tide.

TIBCO Software announced it has received the prestigious 2009 SWIFTReady Financial EAI Label for the eighth consecutive year. This achievement highlights TIBCO's long-time commitment to and support for industry standards across the financial services market.
TIBCO's SWIFT-certified solution for SWIFTNet provides a comprehensive integration platform that helps organizations automate the processing of complex SWIFTNet transactions. This approach bridges the gap between internal back-office systems and SWIFTNet to help ensure customers' financial transactions on the SWIFT network are more efficient and secure. TIBCO provides connectivity to both SWIFT Alliance Access (SAA) and SWIFT Alliance Gateway (SAG) and enables the bi-directional routing of transactions to and from applications across the enterprise.
"We are very pleased to award TIBCO with the 2009 SWIFTReady Financial EAI Label," said Patrik Neutjens, director of partner solutions, SWIFT. "The financial services industry is constantly looking for ways to increase operational efficiency and maximize return on investment, and TIBCO has provided a SWIFT ready solution that does just that. We anticipate many more years of successful collaboration."
SWIFT initiated the SWIFTReady Label program in 2000 and maintains it to certify third party applications and middleware products that support SWIFT messaging systems and standards that integrate with SWIFTNet through Alliance interfaces. Each SWIFTReady label defines a set of criteria, which is reviewed every year to ensure that software remains aligned with the financial market evolution and with customer needs.
"The financial services industry is recognized as one of the most demanding sectors for IT, where success does not come without proven ability," said Ram Menon, executive vice president, worldwide marketing at TIBCO. "Receiving this certification for the eighth year in a row is an important achievement for TIBCO, highlighting our high security and reliability standards for the financial services market."
